Unlock Legal is proud to announce that attorney Melissa DuChene has joined the firm. Melissa’s criminal defense background is a benefit to both our criminal defense practice and in defending our professional licensees against criminal allegations.

Her determination to make things fair and right for licensed professionals is why she is now a critical member of the Unlock Legal team,” said Unlock Legal founder and lead attorney Miranda McCroskey.
Throughout her life, Melissa has been a natural advocate and knew her skill would turn into a career. She took pride in the fact that she could help people solve their problems and either reach or protect their career goals.
From a young age, Melissa was very interested in history and other social sciences. The thought of being a part of these types of movements inspired her to pursue a career in law. Representing those who have been disadvantaged by either the criminal justice system or their professional licensing board resonated with her because she was able to fight against the flaws and injustices that threatened their livelihood.
Having practiced solely in the criminal defense realm previously, her involvement in clients’ cases ended with the court’s verdict. Once she realized she could aid clients in handling the aftermath of their cases that affected their professional careers, she knew it was something she wanted to be a part of. She says, “As an attorney, my goal is to make a client whole, and by going beyond the verdict, I am able to do that.”
Melissa states that it’s extremely rewarding to help clients defend their professional license. The final result of seeing someone be able to pursue their career choice is extremely rewarding. She enjoys strategically mapping out a client’s defense plan and figuring out the best possible means to reach their goal.
Melissa is an adventurer at heart. When she lived in Australia, she went bungee jumping twice. Recently, she went skydiving in Camarillo, CA. She loves the ocean and often goes boating, stand-up paddleboarding, and snorkeling. Also, in her free time, she enjoys baking desserts and bread from scratch.
